Default Interior rear-view mirror removal 124

Anyone know how to remove the rear-view mirror on a 124 chassis? Mine is a '92 300E. The mirror is loose, but I can't figure out how to get into it to tighten it up. I started to try to pry off the vinyl cover but found quickly that I was just going to ruin it. My Haynes manual tells me nothing.

Did you get it figure out? I don't know if it is the same as the W210, but see my description under E-class. I'll bet it is the same. FB

I'm not sure how to fix your loose mirror, but to remove it you simply pull on the whole assembly. The unit is spring loaded and simply snaps in and out of it's mounting.

Hi Sleepwalker,
Thanks for the photos of the EXTERIOR mirror removal. I could be wrong but I believe boycbronco wanted to know how to remove the INTERIOR rear view mirror.[&:]

Colingibb, correct! I could only hope for pictures showing how to remove the interior rear-view mirror. By the way, I have not tried the recommended fixes yet ... I am too nervous that I will just break everything.

By the way, it is loose where it mounts to the car, not where the mirror mounts to the bracket.

You can't be bashful. The mirror is designed to pop loose if someone's head hit it in an accident. There is a spring with metal ends <//////> in the base of the mirror which fits into a female slot bracket which is screwed to the windshield frame. It is a tight fit, so based on your description of being loose, I would guess that the three phillips screws which hold the base plate /bracket to the windshield frame have somehow come loose.

Default mirror

my 190 has a spring that presses on two pins on each side of the mounting arm base. its designed to pop off when your face hits it. i pried at the pin with a skinny screw driver and pulled laterally to get it off.
