HID Lighting causing Bulb Light on Dash
Heya, i got a 2001 E-250 and i put in a HID lighting kit and now im getting a Bulb Burn out light, telling me the bulbs are out inthe car. Any way to fix this so i can keep the HID kit?
Hi,
I assume that the HID's are working when the bulb fail;ure warning lights.
I assume that the wattage of these bulbs is not the original rating.
The bulb warning device senses current as a voltage across a resistor. Change the bulb wattage and the wrong voltage is seen hence the warning device activates since it expects to see a voltage within a given range.
It suspect it may be possible to change the setting somewhere (i.e. in the lighting ECU) but I do not currently know how to do this. Worth seeing if MB Star diagnostics can do it. I guess not since MB won't want this rating changed except for special vehicles.
However increasing the rating of the bulbs is not a good idea because you run the risk of burning the wiring out. It has been designed to carry a certain current. Overloading the wiring can lead to fire.
