Question gps database

I bought my 2008 e350 used and it came with navigation. I was finding that the database was so lacking. It almost gave the appearance of being over 40 years old. I kept telling my wife that it made no sense especially given that it is a year 2008. I decided that since the previous owner lived in Virginia and I am in NJ perhaps the system requires a closer regional disk. I noticed that on the website for Navteq ( who I believe supplies the database) it seemed to list about 9 disks representing the different regions. So I opened the trunk and ejected the disk that was loaded and to my surprise it was non descript disk. No brand name label ( like Navteq) or Mercedes. Only thing I can think of is that the previous owner burned a copy and kept the original and for whatever reason it does not contain the full database.
Anybody else have any other ideas?????
