Question front shocks

I got me a 2001 E320 4matic this pass weekend. While driving, I realized that I need to replace the front shocks. I did looked at the front end suspension and I did notice that the shocks are inside the coil springs. The shocks is bolted at the bottom arm above the front axle.

Anyone have done this job. How hard is it to remove the shocks. Do I need to compress the springs to get the shocks out? Do I need to remove the front axle too?

What is the easy way to replace the shocks without going to the dealer?

Thanks

Ray

Default Remove the coil over

with the proper tool. You need special shocks with the U that goes over the axel.
Check www.autohausaz.com for a price quote.
If you are not sure of how to remove those springs be safe and let a shop install the parts you purchase.
Why did you not have it inspected first before purchase? Cheaper tofind a 4matic with good shocks then spend $600 after the fact.
To late the horse is out of the barn
