Default Front passenger fog lamp

I bought my 96 E320 two weeks ago and it has always been warning me that there is a lamp defective. I seen that the passenger side fog light was out so I purchased a replacement bulb and put the new one in and it still does not work. Any suggestions? Also how do we tell if we have the HID option on our cars? Is there a simple way?

roaster, first step is to check and see if you are getting power at the socket. do this with a 12v test light. Turn your headlight switch on along with the fog lamps. Remove your bulb from the socket. Take your 12v test light, find a good ground, clamp the alligater clamp to ground and probe the socket for power. If the test light bulb lights, then the bulb is the problem. If not your have to do the same procedure at the switch to make sure the switch is getting power and output to the fog lamps.
Hope this helps as a start. The problem could be as simple as a bad ground.

I found that same thing with my 99 E320 wagon. So what I did is I made sure the wires where in correctly, because I noticed that some times the fog light worked, and most of the time it did not. So i unplugged the wire from the Fog light housing and plugged it back in and it's been working fine ever since. So I guess it was just a bad connection. I think those connections at the bottom of the car tend to get corroded or something, so rubbing the connections against each-other worked.

I hope it works for you too!

Later.

I tried the wiring to the fog light housing with the two wires going into it. There was a yellow and a green wire. The green one is not even attached. I am assuming at this point that this is the issue. I am going to have a friend of mine with a wiring meter check it out when he gets home.
