E320 malfunctioning ATC

I have a 1994 E320, which Automotic Temperature Control (airconditioner) is acting up on me.
If I start up the car when it has been parked in a cool area, ATC works fine. If parked in a warm sunny spot, and start-up the engine, the Air conditioner will not engage.
I suspect some sensor is acting up, and have had in for service several times, and yet problems persists.
Can some give a clue what to look for.

Hi SW,
Enclosed console of the E320, and VIN plate, which may assist in troubleshooting further.
The clues you gave I will check with my mechanic, who has the diagnostic tools.
thanks Tore

A Dalton got the instruction on how you can make you own diagnostic tool for a few cents.
your A/C system is newer than ATC which you mentioned. you got Automatic Climate Control already. that is the beginning of the present system which are still in use...although much improved now.
if you are using kammerer, during a short circuit, this unit switches the respective output off and immediately on again as soon as the short circuit no longer exist.
if you are using bosch, during short circuit, it switches off all outputs except the blower control. after short circuit has been rectified, all output are switched on again after 30 seconds.
with coolant temperature below 40 degres C, the blower does not start if the outside temperature is below 20 C and the interior temperature is lower than the temperature adjusted on the temperature selector wheel (cold engine lockout via temperature sensor for coolant).
understanding the system can easily make you locate the problem. i hope i can explain more, but i hate typing for long. i am geting SRI on my right hand now.
anyway, please make sure that the interior and outside temp sensor are okay.

My wife's 1986 SL 560 is having AC problems. A while back, we heard a loud bang while driving and took it to a mechanic. He said that one of the AC hoses burst and replaced it. Well, the AC worked fine for a day then it started to be intermittent with the cooling and blowing out more warm air than cool air.
Could we have some kind of sensor issue?
