Default E320 Engine Removal

I'm getting ready to remove the engine from my 2000 E320 4-matic sedan. Does the engine come out from the top or the bottom. Removal of engine/transmission as a unit or not? Any instructions or diagrams to make this job easier would surely be appreciated.

TIA,

Will

You would have to get a 2 ton lift, at least, to remove the engine and transmission as a unit. Also You would need a lot of head room to maneuver both units out of the car so if you're working in your garage, you need to take that into consideration. Just things I'm pointing out. I just took out the engine on my C280 and decided to remove the transmission first from under the car because of the two points I just raised earlier (I have a 1 ton lift and limited overhead room). What I did was I disconnected all the engine and transmission components, leaving just the 3 mounts (2 engine and 1 trans). Then I removed the transmission mount and jacked the engine slightly from the oil pan. This lowers the transmission with easy access to the transmission bolts. I plan to reinstall the same way.
Good luck to you.
