Thank you! I will call roadside now. That solution would be a blessing as anything else will involve rental cars, towing, etc. ($$) I replaced the battery several years ago via roadside and although it was a bit pricy, it still beats the alternatives. I'll let you know.

good luck

Thank you! A battery issue would be a life changer for me as any other possibility means towing, rental cars, etc. ($$$) I called roadside and they are enroute. I realize batteries aren't cheap but certainly cheaper than the other possibilities. I'll let you know what happens and thank you again.

Roadside called me back and he thinks it is the alternator and not the battery but he is coming to check it for me. He said if it was the alternator, the car would continue to drive using the battery power but would drain it sufficiently to prevent restarting. I'm still hoping for the battery but will let you know. Thanks again.

Roadside service determined it wasn't the battery or the alternator. He noticed the gear was not displayed on the dashboard and that he was not able to shift the car out of park. There was a 10amp fuse on the passenger side under the hood that was out and when he replaced it, the car started normally and all functions were normal. When he turned the car off, the 10amp fuse had again blown and the car wouldn't start. He thinks the problem may be in the shifter assembly. Back to a tow truck tomorrow morning (Monday) and a rental car. He did feel that if I had a mechanic I trusted, it wouldn't necessarily require a tow to the dealership (20x further away from me). I will keep you posted and thanks again.

Well as it turns out, it was in fact that dreaded K40 relay oft referred to here in the forum. Thanks everyone for your help and reassuring words.:)

I just learned that the problem with the K40 relay was that a mouse had built a nest in the relay box and eaten through some wires. I think I am buying a cat.
