Default E220 engine stops when cold start or idle

My 1993 E220 runs normally except sometimes the engine stops when cold start or after the car has a complete stop. It doesn't happen everytime. When cold start, the engine starts normally but after a few moment, it stops. Moreover, when the car stops at traffic light or whenever there is a complete stop, the engine will stop too. It seems the engine does not have enough fuel going in or the idel speed is too low. It is a pretty old car and it runs 220,000km already. Anyone has any idea? Thanks.

sounds like a restricted passage of air to supply the idling speed.

try cleaning the idle speed air valve and throttle valve.

sleepwalker,
I cleaned the air mass flow sensor and it seems to be better. I would like to clean the idle speed air valve and throttle valve as you said. Could you give me more information as I don't know where they are and how to disassemble the parts. Thanks.

(I am an elementary DIYer, more information is prefered)

I cleaned the throttle valve today using Choke and Carb Cleaner. The car runs very smooth now. However, I could not locate the idle speed valve. Is it the small hose which is connected to the air intake path and very close to the throttle valve? Thanks again.

mine is 1993 W124 E220 gasoline. I disassemble the air intake hose and spary carb cleaner into the throttle body by opening it manually. It was very dirty inside before cleaning. The car won't vibrate anymore when idle or at a stop. Is it the correct way to clean it? I have no idea how to clean the idle speed valve.

well, you don't have one.

your car got electronic throttle already.

yes, spray carb cleaner is okay. wiping it after spraying can also be better including the inside.

My car is running like 10 years younger than it was. Thanks, sleepwalker.
