Default E220 CDi Limp home mode..Please HELP?

I Have Mercedes E220 CDI diesel and this so called "Limp Home mode" is getting annoying, begining to lose faith the car........does anyone know what causes this and or what normally needs replacing to stop this?

It always normally happens on the motorway when doing around 60-70mph then i lose the turbo and alot of aceleration. I got tired of driving with no turbo and stopped the car when it 1st happened and re-started then its fine for around five minutes till it happens again.

Please help???

The fault code came up with changning the Glow plugs and the Glow plug control module, which i have done both, and took it for a test drive and it did it again this morning (to my dissapointment).

faulty glow plug cannot put your car in limp home mode. it doesn't affect the driveability...only for starting.

find a workshop which got scanner and read the fault code.

it can be your turbocharger that jams temporarily.

why did you replace the glow plugs and control unit?

check the line routing and installation on pressure sensor and air cleaner.

maybe the charge pressure overshoot exceeds measuring range of differential pressure sensor. check differential pressure sensor.

you may need to replace the turbocharger.

I changed the glow plugs and the Glow plug controller cos thats the only two faults that came up on the Fault scanner.

To me the car deosnt seem to have been maintained much by the previous owner.......is it worth replacing this pressure sensor you speak of??

When you say mihgt have to replace the turbo charger.......does that mean the turbo it self??......or a seperate turbo charger?

by th way the mileage is just over 125000

only if the car is in limp home mode and got the fault code P0105-001.

that's the reason why i was asking for the fault code.

turbocharger... that thing which looks like a nautilus shell with a small fan in the middle.

please read the fault code again...

Hi there....The fault codes were P-1482 (Glow plug controller) - now replaced & P-1482 (Glow plugs defective) - now replaced.

The trouble is its still doing it, get it up to 70-80 mph then is loses power......it does drive at 60-70 but just with no turbo.....restart the car and its back to normal....very odd.

The emmissions look very heavy though at the back when the turbo kicks in...is this normal too for a diesel??

thanks :-)

after you replace those parts, the P1482 fault code is still coming on?

i think there is something more that you need to tell me.

Nah.....no fault messages come up now, thats whats confusing me!. Something somewhere is telling the turbo to stop working whilst accelerating to 70-80 mph, i reckon some sensor somewhere is not doing its job. What do you think?? It did it this morning too.........thing is after re-starting the engine the turbo goes back to normal. I dare not take it to Merc Dealer as they will charge a fortune for what sounds like a part somewhere needs replacing (Somthing that communicates with the turbo to come on and off??)
