Had the same problem at 80,000 miles in late 2006 in my 2001 E320 Wagonwith digital read out on temperature and clock with intermittent missing numbers usually when the vehicle was not used for a few days. Replaced by dealer under M-B extended warranty purchased when car was new (total warranty now 8 yrs or 100,000). The extended warranty is starting to pay off since this dealer repair (new cluster and labor to install and reset) would have been >$1,000. Good luck with repair!
