Default DVB-T tuner >> Genuine tuner needed?

I want to install a in-car DVB-T tuner and connect it to my APS COMAND (2004 E-class)
I found a reasonable prices german tuner (without cardreader) which should work on the Mercedes.

I e-mailed a few times with this supplier, but the sales department there claims i need to have e genuine mercedes TV-tuner, on which the DVB-T tuner has to be connected, otherwise it won't function.

Is this true? can anybody confirm that?
because I would say: a tuner is a tuner. A gebuine Mercedes tuner will receive commeon ether-signals, the DVB-T digital ether signals. what's the difference??? (I mean for working or failing)

No... a tuner is not 'a tuner'. For one thing, your 2004 E-class has MOST wiring, which means that you can't just hook up anything to your head unit. True, MOST wiring is fiber optic (just as D2B), but the CANBUS protocol is different.

Anyways, if you want to connect a TV tuner to your DVD comand, you MUST HAVE a Euro spec (I don't know where you are located, but if you have a US spec comand... forget it; won't work!). The comand must have the right connectors in the back so you can hook up the original MB TV tuner which is compatible in MBs with MOST...

thanks for your reply.

It is a European (Dutch) car.
I looked things up, and yes... I need to make my analogue signal turn digital.
the genuine MB tv tuner does this for me, but I found a german company (what else) that makes interfaces, making analogue signals digital, with a plug that directly fit the fuse panel in the boot

I wrote them en e-mail about costs.
company is called Dietz

Dietz... they also make video adapters for CD-rom comands, if I am not mistaking. Make sure you get a unit that is compatible with the MOST wiring in your car!

I found this dietz company yes.

About 350 EUR for an adapter....
