Combination Switch
I need to replace a combination switch in a 97 E320.
Is this relatively easy?
Any special tools required?
How do I remove the cover on top of Airbag to begin with? Where are the screws for the cover?

RE: Combination Switch
Sleepwalker,
There are two holes in the back of the steering wheel. I cannot see inside the holes, but It feels that I can engage a mid-size flat head screw drive. It is very tight both clockwise and counterclockwise. The tip of my screww driver was bent. I did not want to apply too much force for the fear of breaking something.
What is insde the wholes and how do I get the airbag cover out?
Do you have any pictures or diagrams?
Thank you very much.

RE: Combination Switch
torx 30 if am not mistaken.
at least 70mm long because it goes deep. too long will not give you enough space also.
the L-type got more power on it.
just disconnect the battery while doing it so you won't have a mercedes-benz mark logo on your forehead if ever it deployed accidentally.
if need radio code, just give me your radio serial number.

RE: Combination Switch
Thank you Sleepwalker.
Good News: I replaced the combination switch and it is working fine.
Bad News: When I start the car, the SRS red warning light goes off for a fraction of a second and It comes back on and stays on. Yes I checked and rechecked that the wire plug is connected to the airbag unint. Disconnected and reconnected the battery. Now it seems that I have a bigger problem to solve. Do you have any ideas Sleepwalker? Thanks for all your help.
