Default A/C does not charge

I have 98 E320. My A/C blowing warm air from all vents at the lowest setting. the blower fan work. the compressor clutch kicks in. I though it is low on Freon. I hooked up my gauges and the low pressure reads 30 and high pressure reads 50. so i tried adding a can of freon but the gas does not get sucked in to the system. yes! I opened the valve on the gas line. the gauge reading stay the same. After trying it for awhile I gave up. Any thought what might be the problem?

Hi ohlord;

I am not sure what you mean. How do you run the on board diagnisis? If you mean OBDII, mine does not read A/C. I am still trying to get familair with E320. I had a better luck with my 300CE.

regards

Hi new Buddy,
diagnostics climate control
http://www.eclassbenz.com/node/27
run the values 1-8 and the errors and post them.
it is a variable demand system so it is tough to tell charge from pressure values.

Darvish,

Are you reading 30 psi, or 30 degF? The guage will have both scales.

If you are looking at psi, 50 is too low of a high-side pressure to do anything.

The pressures with the compressor running should be somewhere around 30 low and 250-300 high. With the compressor NOT running both sides will equalize to about 100 psi roughly.

If you cant get the system to charge there are several possible causes

1) You need to be charging the LOW side, when the compressor is running. Bleed it in slowly, or you will damage the compressor valves.

If you can't get the system to pressurize, you need to look for leaks. Based on my MBs AC repairs, a leak will likely be around the compressor shaft, at any connection fitting, or in the condensor radiator.

If no leaks are found, and the pressure differential is too low, you may have a bad compressor, expansion valve, or control.

Hi ohlord:

Thanks for the web address. Here are the values:

1 30

2 39
3 62
4 44
5 33
6 33
7 02
8 41

when I ran the error I first got E61 234 then E FF. I followed the instruction and cleared the error and ran it again and ot showed E FF but this time the diod light bottom for ciculating inside air came on and stayed on.

I know the A/C is low on Freon and compressor works but why I can not recharge it. It does not suck the Freon.
