Hello folks, </P>
I am new here and am actually posting from the UK, but the problem car is owned by my folks in the USA. They are merc station wagon addicts and unfortunately have had some problems lately and hopefully this one can be sorted as they are about to throw in the towel and get out of the marque, They currently own an E320 wagon 2004 and an E500 wagon 2004. The problem they are having is with the E320, When on a decline the car tends to buck, almost like the transmission is catching and then slipping. They do not have the problem on flat ground or inclines, only declines. The car is a 4matic model. Any assistance or tips would be most welcome. I thank you for any/all answers/help. Peter</P>
P.S. just went over this post with my father and he added some more info. It only happens on declines, not on flat or uphill, AND its when he has his foot lightly on the brakes, If he pushes firmly on the brakes, the car of course stops and it does not happen, if he lets off on the brakes the car rolls forward with no bucking, I am thinking that it might be warped rotors that cause a slippage when the brakes are on lightly. Car has 2000 miles and is very carefully driven, My folks are not harsh on cars. Pete</P><edited><editID>pmustang</editID><editDate>38067.7638194444</editDate></edited>

I have the same problem on occasion, even on falt ground. It happens on a down shift or abrupt release of the accelerator (at low speeds). Hope this is not major, since mine has less than 4K miles on it. You mentioned only on the 320 and not the 5?

He has put so few miles on the E500 that I don't think it would have come up. They mostly drive the E320 at the moment. thanks for replying, They are quite worried about this as this car replaced another merc that they had a problem the dealer could not rectify. thanks. Pete

This is a result of the idiotic "active brake by wire" mercedes is now using. Grabbing brake calipers is all too common with this system and it offers only average braking performance. Technonogy? Mercedes is hopelessly lost. I hope my CDI due this summer has available normal traditional brakes. ps I will not keep any European car past the lease/warranty. They are just that bad(but I still love them, espacially the safety)

Thanks so much for shedding some light on the problem, They were starting to think their car was possesed, </P>
I will say that thier run of merc purchases is swiftly coming to an end, They used to buy hondas til they became cheapened junk, they went through a period with cadillacs until 2 (purchased new) cadillacs they bought had subsequently been hit and were found to have been repaired before their purchase as new cars and now mercs seem to be giving a bit too much agro for thier cost. Thanks again folks. Pete</P>

This is correct, idiotronic I mean sensotronic is only on the E. MB is truly a tarnished star(this started before Chrysler). Give me the old days of my 87 300E. In 155K I had the following repairs: water pump, right wheel bearing, ball joints, alternator, 1 window switch, 1 relay, 1 oxy sensor.. That's it! in 155,000 miles! Normal wear items tires, brakes, etc not included. What's with the new cars and all thier problems?
