Default Belt Change

Hi, I just got my Mercedes 420 E 1997 and was wondering how I am supposed to change the belt. I don't know what part comes off in order for me to take the belt out. Can anyone assist me?

Hello Windi
You are in luck, I just replaced mine last week.
1. Get a E10 Torx socket
2. Draw a picture of how the belt wraps around the pulley and fan, make sure which side is up.
3. When you stand in front of the car, look under the upper hose you'll see the big pulley on top and slightly down below is a smaller one with the Torx nut sticking out, no other pulley has that nut, that one is the tensioner just use the E10 and push the tensioner counter clock wise, this baby is spring loaded, the belt will slip out with ease. Then install the new one
Good Luck

if the belt tensioner has been replaced in the past it will not have a torx nut on the center of the pulley. they did away with that particular design. now it uses a 17mm hex to the bottom left side of that tesioner. sort of hidden but you will see it if you look carefully. then as carson said goes counter clockwise then that will relaese the slack on the belt and just pull off belt. just a tip incase there is no torx nut on that tesioner.
