Default Banging Transmission

I've had this problem for quite awhile now, but it's becoming exceptionally aggravating now. When shifting into reverse, the tranny bangs loudly, sounds like the rear of the car is going to drop out, or I'vecollided with something! I notice it does this when driving and I take my foot off the gas -- it thuds loudly almost every time! It's an automatic, 1994 W124.032? E320 coupe, 88k miles. I even asked the dealership about this earlier on and they said it was "par for the course," as I remember : / Anybody got any ideas?

Discs? What kinda discs? If you're meaning brake discs, this bang into gear can occur when shifting from neutral into reverse without brakes applied. Let me know what you think, any advice will be greatly appreciated
