Back lights enigma - E320 1998 sedan
So here is a mystery I need help with
As I start the engine and get gear engaged, I get an indication on my dashboard: “Defective Light”.
One would think it is as simple as a burned light bulb somewhere
So I wait till it gets dark, and try all the outside lights one by one: head lights, parking lights, blinkers, stop lights, running light, everything. The back left running and stop lights (drivers side), are tricking me:
When head lights are on, the red rear running lights are good. When brakes are applied, the stop light comes on but the running light goes off.
Naturally, a shortcut somewhere. But where?
Tried replacing the two-way bulb. No success
Tried replacing the cap over the bulb – did not work either
All fuse contacts seem OK
Tried going through the fuses – all look well and intact
.
So I am seeking advice on where and how to troubleshoot further.
Thank you.
