Default amg exhaust needs catalytic converters?

I'm a newbie , with a 2006 E500 . I own a Volvo Turbo wagon (97) with alot of aftermarket stuff , including an ICU , struts, shocks, anti-sway bars, etc. I talked to a Mercedes services guy today about purchasing an AMG exhaust system - he said that I would need two new (expensive!) catalytic converters - is this so ? Is there an aftermarket exhaust system that does not need these? In addition , I was wondering if there is a reputable Mercedes Aftermarket supplier out there - I've been spoiled by IPD, which sells alot of good foreign and domestic accesseries for Volvo . Thanks - I appreciate the advice!
