Default Advice - too good a deal to pass up?

Hey guys,

My mom's friend's father recently passed away and left his 2000 E320 to her. The thing has 27k miles on it! Unfortunately, he rarely serviced it and the paint is in poor condition, possibly needing a new paint job. Also, it needs new tires. However, she is willing to sell it to me at the same price the dealership offered her - $8,000. This is too good a deal to pass up, right? It will probably need another $1k in work, then I need to pay to have it shipped to me (I'm in NC, shes in FL, I've been quoted $450 lowest), then registration fees and insurance and what not. I'm thinking it will be close to 10k all said and done. This is still an unreal deal, right? Anyway I should pass up on this? Even if I have to take out a small loan?

Thanks for the help,

And Hello to Everyone,

Chris

I looked it up on Kelly Blue Book (kbb.com) and it's worth like $13,500 in "fair" condition which means that it has some cosmetic and mechanical problems.
That's why the dealer offered $8k because they figured that with $2k invested, the can still make $3k-$5k profit.

BUY IT!!!!!!

Here's the link to the price I found:

Oh, that price was with 75,000 miles on it (it said 75k would be average) and I just saw in your post that it only has 27k on it.

So, it's probably worth even more.

Yeah, thats about what I thought. I'm 99% sure on it right now, just awaiting a thorough mechanical check.

Anything I should know as a new e320 owner?? Should I expect any problems at any mile checkpoints? Any recommendations for work to have done or upgrades to purchase?

I don't know much about the newer E Class.

There are a lot of forums out there that you could get great info from, including this one.
