My wife and I currently own a 2007 Acura TL type S and have considered trading it for a 2005 MB E500. I really like the rear wheel drive and V8 in the E500, and the wife likes the additional room. We could trade the TL for more than the asking price of the E500, and it is tempting.

The latest Consumer Reports auto edition rates the 2005 E series as better than average reliability, and the TL is rated the same. There is no warranty left on the E500, but I have always done my own maintenance and repair work on my vehicles. I know that there are items that require specific computer diagnosis to troubleshoot on the MB, but I know of an MB trained indy that has the MB Star software, and can do this for a nominal fee.

Would we be making a mistake to go for the Benz?
