Hello fellow members. I sold my C280 over the weekend and am about to purchase a '97 E420 Sport with 96k miles. It's a one-owner, I know the owner, serviced at local shop, repairs always performed at stealership. I know mid-90's had wiring issues (at least my '95 C class did). My quetion is are there any things such as this I need to be aware of with the model/year combo?

I have had a 97 E320 for several years and I have followed the usual problem trends. I love the car for safety, handling, and ease of driving it. It has some attitude as electronics go out that require expensive diagnostics by the dealer or the shop, but I think it is still worth it.

The AC starts to leak at the evaporator or condeser. This is very expensive to fix. The entire dash has to come out and they recommend changing all the parts such as heater core, sensors, etc. It would be about $3500.

The other known problem is the voltage regulator for heater fan. The fan works very slow even at high fan setting. The old regulator is not available any more and you have to change the fan assembly and the regulator all together.

So at least check the Ac and the heater/AC fan.

Thanks for the info. I'm driving the car for a couple of days to decide for sure and I thought this morning that the blower wasn't very fast in Defrost mode. Glad I know where to start.
