'92 300E A/C suction pipe leaking. DIY?
3.0 M103 engine, 157K on it, a couple days ago as I was pulling in to park at my apartment the power steering quit, there was a burnt oil smell all of a sudden. Alarmed, I went outside and found a significant pool of black oil (dirty power steering fluid) under the car.
I know its power steering fluid because the PS pump reservoir is empty now.
Had my room mate look underneath as I turned the steering wheel to locate the leak, turns out my A/C suction pipe has a leak.
So I have 2 questions:
1. If anyone has encountered this before, can I just replace the hose on my own? Or only by hiring a mechanic at a shop?
2. How is the power steering affected if its a leak in the A/C hose assembly?

Answer
You have two unrelated issues.
You can replace the A/C manifold line set and power steering hose as DIY.
You may need professional help to vacuum, add oil and re-charge the A/C system.
