My father-in-law owns a 1991 300E and the front end is making noise. I've driven it and it sounds like a clunk from the suspension. Kind of sounds like the bushings or ball joints need grease. I didn't notice any excessive play. Car runs and drives like a dream. Anybody have similar problems or is this a problem that occurs with normal fix?

I had a knocking type niose in my '91 300E and I traced it to the front shocks. Replace the shocks and the noise is gone. Good luck.

 

Thanks for the tip, shocks are cheap and I just may throw a new set on this weekend.

Make sure to check out the idler arm and the control arm bushings while you're under there.

Both could cause a "clunk" noise as well.

The most common thunk problem is caused by the front sway bar bushing. They are cheap to buy and easy to replace. P.
