The little drawer next to the glove compartment is closed and will not open no matter how I pull, push and pry. It has been so ever since I bought the car used eight months ago. I am thinking there's a catch stuck somewhere and that I can pry it loose by inserting a flat piece of metal somewhere. Any suggestions?

 

you should bring it to thier attention that it doesnt open and they can repair it for you, but since its now been 6 months ago now they might charge you to fix it, and im sure that the preowned warranty wont cover that repair or replacement of the drawer. you can really pull on the drawer and it will open.but it probably is damaged or maybe something jammed in there. sometimes when prying them open they still work just not as well. in order to correctly remove it the wood trim needs to be removed then you can get the drawr out. you can get it out without removing the wood but you might end up damaging the wood.

 

Thank you for your suggestions. I am now living 3000 miles from where I purchased the car so, unfortunately, I can't pursue authorized repair under any warranty. I did go to a local shop and found an ALLDATA entry for "Accessory Compartment: Service and Repair", "AR6810-P-1195T Remove/Install Drawer in Instrument Panel". It shows four pictures from which I learn that the drawer is in a box that sits in the instrument panel with some clips. In order to remove the box parts of the instrument panel have to be removed. Not something I want to try. Is the drawer open/shut action mounted at the back of this box? If so I have little hope of repairing it without having an authorized shop remove, possibly replace the box which contains the drawer?
