2006 e320cdi headlight wiring insulation failure
When changing the failed Osram H7U halogen left headlight bulb, I discovered the insulation on the wires in the capsule that contains the light assembly had lost big chunks of their insulation, exposing bare wires in close proximity to one another. As a temporary fix, I taped the bare wires with electrical tape. I did not check the right headlight.
I have an appointment with the local Mercedes dealer (Alfano in San Luis Obispo) on 1/2/2015 to have the problem diagnosed.
I am under the impression this is a widespread problem which has not received much publicity. It obviously represents a serious fire hazard.
I would appreciate feedback from other forum members who have experienced this problem, particularly MB's response and the ultimate resolution.
