Changing oil is standard procedure like others. Oil levels are checked through MFD as there is no dipstick.

I just changed the oil on my 2000 E320 & manual says 8.5 quarts capacity. Before I drained the oil (thru the drain plug), i check the oil level using the FSS and it says "oil level ok.". However, I only got 6 quarts of old oil and just filled it with 7 quarts of Mobil 1 0W-40. There is a note on the oil cap not to exceed the max so as not to damage the engine. Does it mean that 2.5 qts is left in the engineor do I need to add 1.5 qts? After this, I used the FSS to check the oil level but gave me the message to turn on ignition - but it is already on! Using the dipstick, what is the correct oil level?? HELP!!

did you turn it to position 2? using a dipstick, anywhere above halfway is good.

Thanks for the reply. My bad. It's not turn to position 2. It's working now. How about the quantity of the oil removed vs. oil put in?? Any input?[/align]
