RE: 2001 E320 seat heater
I am new to MB and therefore no expert, but I'll try. Look for a connector near the seat cushion. If it is loose push it in. If it is not loose disconnect it and measure te resistance between the terminals on the seat side. If the heater is good the resistance should be in the order of a few Ohms.
Now I have a question. Do they put the heater in all cars and just include the wiring and switches if you buy the option. This question came up on the BMW forum and I seem to remember that the answer was sometimes you may find a free heater ready to hook up.
We just got an e320 for my wife which lacks the seat heater. She is missing the butt warmer which her BMW had and is hinting for one for Christmass. I am looking for a quick and hopefully inexpensive path to get her one.

I'm thinking about adding seat heaters to my car too. I already bought the center portion of the dash and the switches. I just need to know what else to get. Should I even be thinking about aftermarket heaters and retrofitting them?

Hi Cody,
Here is a place which sells aftermarket kits: http://www.sportsimportsltd.com/heatelcarsea.html
I don't know how the dealer's price will compare.
If the heaters are not already in the seats the labor at an upholstery shop is going to be expensive. I checked and it is about $210 per side.
I am going to look under the seats for a cableto see if the heaters are already in place.
If they are not I will probably get the type which go over the seats.
While my wife was hinting that she missed the seat warmer which her BMW had and Christmass is coming she choked on the estimated price to duplicate a factory setup.

on my 99 and 00 E320, when the rocker switch is invoked (top half) it's LOW. when the
bottom half is pressed, it's HIGH. MB seat warmers are woven into the seat material.
it's very labor intensive to replace but it can be done with a ton of patience. otherwise,
simply apply an aftermarket heater pad beneath that....though the padding between that
and your butt will be thicker and thus, lose a scootch of warmth in the process. peeling
the cover off can be done by mortals but requires a lot of arm muscle and dexterity. for
a pro who has done this, I watch him take about an hour. if I were to try this, I would
set aside all day for both front seats and have burgers, drinks and music to keep me
company.
