I'm looking for some advice. I have a 1999 E320 Wagon (4Matic.) 140K. When we bought the car last year the transfer case had a leak. Finally got around to dealing with it and the MB dealer said that it didn't just need to be sealed but that we needed a new transfer case because "everything was rattling around in side." They quoted something on the order of $3K to replace. That stings. I want to have my foreign car mechanic do the job even though he thinks it will take him longer than the MB mechanic. I haven't been able to find a new transfer case online but I found all of these used and warranted transfer cases. Is that a viable and intelligent option?
