Default 1998 E 320 Catalytic Converter Rattle

I've got a 98 E 320 with 190K on the clock and the catalytic converters are making some rattling noise at idle. Have any of you had one or both of these replaced and did it solve the problem? Is it a urgent repair?

Thanks,

Default Check that it is not a loose hanger

then test cat function.Sound like a can of gravel being shaken up?
Where are you located?universal cats can be spliced in for about $100 each including labor.
Time to change your o2 sensors as well.

It is just a rattling noise at idle. The dealer said that it was the convertor and would get worse with time. Are you sure about the universal cats?

Default eastern cat

or racepages.com or magnaflow for performance cats.
If you are in California you might find a shop to splice them in,any place else and you are fine with the 49 state oe universals.

Arrow Your call

You can either try to splice in the racepages universal cats or you can ensure peace of mind and have an indie mechanic install the cat that is rattline. Installed you are looking at about $550 to $600 per cat. You should only need one. Find out which side is making the noise. Use OEM MB parts and you can't go wrong. Good luck. I hated my noisy driver's side cat before I couldn't take it anymore. Two local shops would not install the universal cats that I showed them. My indie mechanic will not use anything but MB parts.

Thanks for the info, I'll check it out.
