1993 E280 pre-purchase question
Hi,
First things first.. I live in Norway. Cars here are super expensive and so is fuel. It is horrible. But over to what I would appreciate help with:
My daily driver is a 1991 Honda Civic 1,3. It has driven 160.000 miles. Ive spent $20 on oil and oilfilter for it in the two years Ive owned it. I love the little bastard. But its nearing its demise. And I need a replacement.
So I went to a local dealer and saw a regular 1994 E200. I liked what I saw.
I felt safe when driving it and it was ok performance wise. But I didnt like the shape it was in, cosmetically.
I searched the Internet for alternatives. I found a 1993 E280 with 180.000 miles on it. Current owner has done oil changes at MB every 6000 miles. Every major service has been done by shipping the entire car from Norway to Germany.
The alternator was replaced a couple of thousand miles ago.
New exhaust installed at 166.000 miles.
It had a major service at 179.000 miles.
It has had a cruicecontrol installed after it was bought, installed at a MB workshop.
I dont know what its called in English, but both front right and left body wheel-arch metal plates (Jesus this must be horribly explained) was replaced at 178.000 miles. He said he didnt like the small rust spots that had appeared... Go figure.
I have no info if this horror wiring harness thing has been replaced or not.
How can I check this?
Is it even worth considering this car? Will I run into maintenance hell?
You can see the pictures of it here:

RE: 1993 E280 pre-purchase question
I would say get it inspected first thing before purchase. In my opionion 180,000 Miles is a lot. If you can, find another will less miles on it. The E Class is a great car. Just mae sure it gets inspected by a shop otherwise you can ru the risk of issues.
