190E 1987 Starts but won't run HELP PLEASE!
We need some help! PLEASE
Not sure what is going on with our car. Today we were on our way out and the car stopped after a few feet out of our driveway. This has never happened before although the car has been running fairly rough when the engine is cold lately.
Now after stalling it starts for about a second every time I turn the ignition off and back on again as the fuel pump provides a little gas.
I have just recently replaced the spark plugs hoping that would help the rough running, but obviously it did not. I am not the world's best mechanic but I fear a costly repair in the future and would like any information which anyone can provide.
I have also replaced the fuel pump relay and the cold start valve. It's getting frustrating since I have to get it towed to a shop for diagnosis. Any suggestions out there? There is plenty of vacuum in the tank and pressure on the fuel lines every time I turn on the ignition.
Thanks a million in advance.

Which engine do you have ?
4cyl -Single Overhead Cam ? SOHC
4cyl -Dual Overhead Cam ? DOHC
6cyl - 2.6 Liter
If you're not sure, you can post your VIN number and maybe we can help

it's a 2.3 single overhead cam. my first thoughts went towards the fuel pump. however, after hearing that there is vacuum in the tank as i open the fuel cap and seeing that there is pressure on the fuel line every time I remove the fuel fitting on the cold start valve i started thinking in a different direction. i guess the fuel pump can still be bad even though it provides some type of fuel pressure.
the car was acting up a little bit prior to the day it stopped but only the first couple of minutes after i started it. as it warmed up the car was running like a clock. it used to idle rough when cold and it felt like it was going to die as i pushed down the accelerator.
now, it will start for a brief second when i prime the motor with the ignition but it stops after about a second.

seems there was an accumulation of fuel inside the ignition chamber which takes time to burn...shaking, hesitation, and then runs smooth ones the air/fuel ratio goes back to normal.

that's why you need to do the basic test on fuel pressure or delivery first.
we cannot find out till some tests were done. maybe it's just a simple case of clogged fuel filter.
