Trans fluid / 98 CLK320

Hello everyone...
I recently purchased a 98 CLK320 with 71k on it. Now I have 78k on it and the service indicator came on.
I went to the dealer purchased the filter and the 8qts of mobile 1 changed it and reset the reminder light.
This got me to thinking about other service, the dealer says the transmission fluid NEVER needs to be changed and is a lifetime fluid. Although that sounds like a nice sales pitch if you are on the sales floor trying to buy a new one at 78k I wonder whether or not that is the best thing for the car. So far, aside from a few wierd quirks I like my CLK very much and would like to keep it until 200k+ if it will make it.
Should that transmission fluid really last the life of the car? It seems logical to think that fresh fluid would result in longer life but maybe I'm wrong.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Chris

You´re not wrong.
In the beginning of the market launch of the 722.6xx Transmissions MB declared the "life time filling".
Even the screw for draining the ATF from the converter has been saved on for that reason end of ´99.
Today MB came back to the roots....
Dependent upon load of Your transmission the change of ATF with filter is always recommendable all 60k-80k Miles.
Greetings
Peter
