Instrument cluster removal

How do you remove the instrument cluster? I have the classic leds out on two of my screens and would like to fix.

Thanks

there is MB OEM tool that will help you remove the instrument cluster.

The tool is comprises of two hooks which are placed at either side of the cluster, and then the cluster is just pulled out. Nothing holds the cluster in except for some tight rubbers.

You may be able to remove the cover under the dash and reach up and push the cluster out. This is a safer way then using the hooks if you have access. If find that you have to remove the steering wheel, don't turn the ignition on without the wheel in place. It will place a fault code in the system which will require a code reader.

If you have an adjustable steering column, this will not be necessary. You may also be able to squeeze it past the steering wheel without an adjustable column.

If you are able to repair your cluster, let me know how you did it please.

Good luck

Squeeze is right. It is a tight fit. Also, looking forward to seeing the pictures.

I watched steveML take out my cluster while installing my command. He said the tool can easily rip the sides as you pull out. He just reached behind and pushed it forward. It was out in about 10 seconds.

My temp and clock led's have both failed as well. once the instrument cluster is out, do you get the led's repaired or do you replace them with new units from MB?

mine went out a month or two ago. they replaced it under warranty. it does not take long at all. they told me that there is an entire cluster that is replaced that includes the led's and all of the lights behind the gauges. i waited...took all of 15 minutes for them.
