I bought a 2002 clk 430 from my daughter. She has had the car for approx 8 years, and never had a front plate. She never received a traffic violation from the CA.police department. I noticed that there was never a front bracket installed. Not even the holes in the bumper. I understand that the PD will ticket you if the front license plate is not there. Does anyone have any suggestions how to go about getting one. The Mercedes dealer wants eighty dollars for the bracket. She bought the car from that dealership. I just thought that it is way too much. I know that the car looks cooler without it.

Any suggestions?

all cars come with the front plate bracket in the trunk by the spare tire. if the car was preowned then it might not be there

 

Do you or anyone know where I can get one for a better price than the $80.00 that the Mercedes dealer wants? Any input is appreciated. Do you think I should try the salvage yards?

Yes, salvage yard might be a good idea. even if you get the front plate bracket to mount the plate, youll still need to drill into the front bumper to mount it.

 

I have also seen them on e-bay for less than $80. Look under clk or w209. They are also different if you have the AMG package... I think they were $10 more.

 

Get the new one that screwes into the tow ring hole.
