2006 CLK 350 issues
I recently came across a 2006 CLK 350 and have some questions regarding the integrated phone, integrated I-pod, and car charger???
I want to integrate the phone with blue-tooth. Does this require a special phone or hook-up? A company is trying to charge hundreds of dollars for an aftermarket piece. Do I need this?
I understand integrated I-pod requires some aftermarket, but there is an 1/8th in cable connection in the glove box, will this work for the I-pod?
The dealership told me that the cigarette lighter is only that and not made for 12v to charge phones and what not. Is this true and if so are there options for conversion o 12v to charge a phone??

Re: the iPod connection -- yes, you can plug right into that glovebox port. And, assuming you have COMAND in your car, you can pipe the iPod through your sound system via the AUX setting in COMAND. However, you will not be able to control the iPod through the COMAND system or steering wheel controls without the integration kit.
I use a cable that's about 3' long and keep the iPod in the center ashtray area (with the ashtray insert removed). It's not very elegant, but it saves a bunch of cash and I find it no less distracting than looking at the speedo area to scroll through songs. Plus, it sounds great.
If you wanted to, I'm sure you could snake the connecting cable through the glovebox and behind the console or something so you wouldn't have a cable showing as I do.

If you do not have Comand, use the connection in the glovebox and press the CDC button on the Audio 20 for 2 seconds until Aux Input Active shows on the screen. I use it for an MP3 player and a portable DVD player.
