Hi:
I am about to purchase a 2004 CLK 500 cabrio and would like some info about the navigation system, if possible. It uses CDs, and I would like to know the manufacturer of both the hardware and the software supplier. It may be Blaupunkt and TeleAtlas, but I'm not sure. Also, any comments about the need to update this system with new CDs, and at what kinds of intevals, will be most appreciated.
Thanks iun advance,
Peter

Thanks for the info. Pitiful system, wouldn't you agree? I'll contiunue to carry my Garmin Nuvi 350 in the glove box ;-) And the cost of map upgrades is absured.

We spent 1.5 hours lost last night because it directed us West off I5 instead of East. Trying to find a Best Western that was not even in the data base. Last week could not find a long-established local restauarant in the data base.
And how about that text input by joystick? Need gas? Better pull over and read the 200+ page manual. From now on, I am taking my NĂ¼vi 350 in the glovebox.

Nuvi in the glovebox. That's where mine is too.
BTW, a colleague of mine used to work for a GPS software company. She chuckled at my mention of the "updates" offered by MB at a mere $275 for the set, no single disks, thank you. She said that while NAVTEQ <sp?> has the best mapping engine, the update that came out in the summer of '06 (most recent, I believe), is woefully outdated, since the companies are almost a year behind with updates off the bat. She advised waiting until the end of the year to catch the next update of needed.
Updates? No thanks. I'll just plug my Nuvi into the PC and browse to the Garmin site.
