Default 2004 CLK 500 Cup holder

A couple of days ago I had trouble getting the cup holder on the dash to stay closed. Now it will not open when pressed. I played with it a littel but did not want to break anything.

Has anyone else had trouble with this or know where the catch mech is located so it can be freed without taking the dash apart? Any information would be welcomed.

sometimes pulling it out with force will open it. and they will be ok. but be sure to push it in before pulling it out. they are a pain to replace. the whole dash has to come apart to get to it.

Default Cup holder 2

Thank you for the sugguestion. I did push and pull but it did not seem to like it. I then gave it a rather hard rap and it popped open. The it would not close. I noticed that the bottom rotatated and I played with that... no good. I then removed the rubber covering and it seemed to like that.

Not knowing exactly how this works, the entire cup arm and stuff do not seem to be moving that freely. When the drawer opens they stay folded and they do fold when you press it down. Could I have some soda or something gumming up the works? Is there a place I should provide some lub or something? Given that is the only cup holder in the front, even though a little out of the way, I would like to use it from time to time. However, if my option is open or closed... I choose closed.

Thanks.... David
