Default '01 CLK430 @ 100k miles.....

I've got an opportunity to buy a '01 CLK430 with high mileage for the 'right' price. It's been a commuter car with most all highway miles on it. It's been inspected at a Benz dealer and it's got their seal of approval, so much so, they would like to sell me an extended warranty on it (it's currently out of warranty).

I'm curious if you guys know what major/minor services need to be performed at 100k. Does the CLK430 need timing belt/chain replacement, coolant flush, tuneup. or ??. I'm waiting for the service records as it's supposedly been kept in service at Benz dealers, but I don't have the paperwork yet.

Does anyone have any experience with how well the CLK430 handles high mileage? Is the engine a 200k + mile engine or is it mostly toast at 100k? How does the drivetrain and supporting mechanical systems hold up? Do brake calipers & rotors need to be replaced, brake fluid flushed, etc? Are their other systems in the car that need replacement with high mileage?

Any help you guys could give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks....

hey .you got the right car ...i know some benz engine can run 300000 still never have a major problem.
the car at 100000 you need to check all the joint and bushing that always making noise .
shocks are the 2nd look.
emergencie hand break and cable
tranny oil change with filter
a/c evaporator core leak ......always have problem....
tires too!
just a little tips!hope you enjoy your clk.....

sweet.....

Any idea about the service interval for the timing belt/chain? I can't seem to find any service interval information online for the CLK430.

you only have timing chain.
no definite service time for it.
your engine will still run fine at 12 degrees difference on timing, and makes it difficult to tell if the chain have elongated. that is almost equivalent to a jump of 1 tooth on the camshaft gear.
if a noise is heard, then change it. the camshaft gear have rubberized edge that wears out first. if it does, the noise will remind you.

Very cool....I should have expected a German car to use a chain.

Thanks for the info Sleepwalker.

MY BOTHER HAS A E 430 AND HIS FRIEND HAS THE E430 4MATIC. THOSE CARS GOT ABUSED AND ABUSED MANY TIME THREW THE STREETS OF NEW YORK. MY BROTHERS HAS 145,000 AND MY FRIEND HAS 125,000. BOTH JUST CHANGE THE OIL AND TIRES OFTEN, EVERY 7,500 MILES. THE ONLY THING THAT WENT BAD WAS THE STRUTS AND THE BUSHING, AFTER ALL THOSE CRAZY TURNS WE DID AND WHO KNOWS WHAT THE CAR REALLY WENT THOUGH. BUT AS FAR AS THE CARS, THEY WILL STILL BE ABUSED AND NOTHING SO FAR WENT WRONG., MY FRIENDS DID HIS MOTOR MOUNTS AND BUSHING TOO SO DEFFINETLY CHECK THOSE OUT 1ST.

OTHER THAN THAT HAVE FUN WITH THE CLK, PUT A CHIP AND RACE IT, YOULL BEAT THOSE VETTES AND MUSTANGS, WITH EASY GERMAN MUSCLE.
