Default Wiring Harness

Hey Everyone,

Does anyone have any info regarding the wiring harness for the C series from 1995 to 1997? My mechanic told me that Mercedes outsourcedthe part in 95 and 96 andthey were all recalled. He says mine needs to be replaced ( engine light on)it isn't under warranty, and I have to come up with the $1,600.00 Has anyone else encountered this?

I just got the same bad news from my shop and I just bought the car. I am going to have it fix, If you want a cheaper price for the harness call BMA 1 888 BMA 3911. They are OEM parts with warranty, It will save you a bunch of money. Just make sure you have a part number to order.

I am wondering, how do they diagnose this problem or do they insist you fix it before they address any other issues on the vehicle.

When they pulled out all the faulty codes from my check engine light, it was showing 25 fault codes and from all the symptoms they received they pretty much sure that is the problem. Plus this is not the first case they had, This shop handlesONLY european cars and their warranty is great, like my case they give me 1 year warranty, if any problem occurs, then they will fix it for free.

What are the problems or symptoms that you have. If you want tell me and I will ask my shop, I would be glad letting you know before you spend all that money.

Cheers

Most obvious symptom is the car vibrating in idle which is very intermittant, sometimes it runs great but then it does it again. I could probably live with the cel on if the car ran better. I still love the car and wouldn't have anything else, I drove a BMW 525i before I purchased this and it JUST FELT WRONG!

Benzgirl, Your problem is the first phase of the symptoms, it will get worse. I am not trying to discourage you but Do not drive the car when the CEL is on, have it fix maybe yours is not as bad as mine. I started having bad idle, CEL on and then car stalls here and there until I fed up and towed the car to the shop. If I can turn back time I would Love purchase anotherbimmer. Don't get me wrong Mercedes is an awesome car but case like this, they should be more carefulmaking an expensive car.

I appreciate it, I will have to get it repaired, I know. I have a 95 C280 with 96,000 miles on it. What year and model is yours and what price were you quoted for the part?

I have 1995 C220 with 102,000 miles on it, BMA quoted me around $400-$500 fpr the harness but my shop won't install parts from others, you have to use their parts and labor to do it so I spent $950 for parts and $600 for labor (Warranty reasons). Good luck with yours, my car will be done on tueday, I will post the result.

Cheers!

Just wanted to let everyone know I got my wiring harness replaced($1,300.00 later) and the engine light is off and it cleared up all error codes. YES!! I had anticipated it to be more than the wiring harness so keep your fingers crossed that all is well.
