Windshield mirror reattachment/repair
A friend's '99 C 320's mirror fell off the windshield. I reattached the metal plug after sanding the plug and the glass. I tried to "snap" the mirror assembly back onto the "plug" but broke the insides of the mirror... After two whole epoxy kits squirted into the mirror and reglueing the mirror frame, I'm ready to make another try.
It appears that the mirror side has a "snap in" bracket that goes over two grooves on the plug on the windshield, but it takes a LOT of pressure to get it on (hence, busted guts of the mirror assembly). Is there a tool or trick to reconnect the mirror assembly with the plug?... Do you "hammer" it on, parallel to the window glass??
Any help will be very much appreciated...

Yes, all that I've dealt with my 65 years have had a set screw. This thing is different, it appears to rely on the "detent" of snapping the mirror assembly onto the plug on the windshield. I guess it's a safety issue, if somebody's head hits it, it will fly off.

i know the SLK has a differnt type of mirror. you turn the mirror 90 degrees and then turn it down to snap it into place. use a screw driver in the hole on the mirror side then twist it to snap into place. i didnt think the C had that style though.
