Default What does your experience tell you about this...?

C230K 2000 154Kms Stock

Recently the car has become very sluggish. From stop, upon sudden acceleration the car will hesitate and if I continue to press the pedal down the car will start to shake, not vibrate. I have to shut the engine off and then restart, everything is fine again. I have read several posts on the forum, and they lead to several different parts. I checked my spark plugs and they are clean. I checked the MAF and it 'looks' clean and unbroken. Although I didn't know what I was looking for exactly.

Something else I would like to ad. Just now I drove to the local plaza and parked. As I pushed down on the gas pedal suddenly, the engine hesitated and I heard a loud 'pop' sound. In fact the engine would not rev up smoothly unless I was very gentle while pushing down the gas pedal. Hope this leads me somewhere....

Is the "check engine" light on? If it has been, almost any mechanic can run an OBD2 scan to "help" pinpoint the problem. Check every hose and rubber part from the air filtre box running to the intake manifold. It only takes one tear, leak, or loose fitting, to ruin the fuel air mixture. After that it gets more difficult.

I had a similiar problem with another car a few years back. It turned out to be the Catalytic Converter had melted in the centre and the exhaust would not flow through as usual, car engine couldn't breath, replaced it(actually removed it) and everything returned to normal.

Just a thought.

Good luck,

Trygve

I changed the fuel filter today.....no difference noticed.

the CE light comes when key is in position 2, before ignition. The CE light however does not come on when this hesitation starts.....
