w202 auto box will not change gear
 

C200 w202 the auto box started to change at the wrong time, no kickdown or down changes and eventually went into "safe Mode" i.e can only get one forward gear and reverse.

Any ideas what the problem might be please?

read and delete faults.

it can be rpm sensor, or defective solenoid valve.

you need to check the fault codes in in the trans could be n2n3 speed sensors or an etc control unit or a trans however you need to read the codes and look at the adaptations of the trans

Thank you, it was the speed sensor, had to have a new circuit board fitted to transmission. Job was done wityhin a day by a local independant merc specialist

vytamenc and i got it right.

glad it's fixed now. that sensor got a hairline crack on it because of heat.
