Thumbing Noise - Rear Suspension

Thumbing Noise - Rear Suspension
In recent months when I drive over rough roads I get an intermittent thumbing sound from the rear of the car. Almost sounds likes it's coming from under the passenger side rear seat. Sounds like the exhaust system hitting the bottom of the chasis...but the exhaust is fine. Are there any bushing on the suspension system that could cause this sound? Could it be the rear shocks? Car is a 1999 C230 Sport with 60K. Thanks for your thoughts!

RE: Thumbing Noise - Rear Suspension
I had a similar situation, on my 99 450SLC and it turned out to be the rubber bump stop had worn out. Also I have been told the height rubber on the springs on occasion come off, and a similar effect is heard. Or it just could be a broker exhaust hanger. Got ot a dealer of good mechanic and find out what is wrong before you break something and stop worrying about what could be wrong.
