Default servicing costs

My 180c 2006 needs it`s first B service ,i have had quotes from the 2 local merc garages £380 from one and £500 from the other!
A couple of filters some oil and a few hours labour, COME ON!
Is there some strange myth about the merc service eg (fully stamped book sir!?) when one come to px in? or just coining it in?
My last merc which i px for this one was a 2000 slk and i said it has a full merc history was met with ; oh.

Local garage or do it myself? i have a bodyshop here?

Ah, the infamous Service B question! A lot has been said about this, so I'll give you my opinion. Both Service A and Service B on a Mercedes tend to be pricey for what they are, no doubt. That's why I do everything I possibly can myself. You can have the dealer do it, or pay an independent shop, or do some of the things yourself depending on your mechanical abilities. I buy the parts like filters, etc. online and save a ton of labor. Also, you have to set the service reminder yourself, which is readily available in many posts here by doing a search for it. Hey, somebody has to pay for all those plants in the showroom!!!

If you typically trade your cars before 80k miles, it adds some value for the buyer or dealer.
In my opinion, if you are going to keep the car until it is ten years old or over 80k miles, it really doesn't matter because by that time it will evident if you have taken care of it or not.

I do 90% of the work myself also. My issue is I cannot find anyone who will treat my cars properly. They lose fasteners and leave them off, I find new dings etc, which infuriates me.

Blimey, here in the states, my dealer charges $299, so in your currency that's£161 or 202 Euros. I never take my car to the dealer anymore for service and it has nothing to do with money, they just do substandard work. 3 times they failed to do a proper oil change, how bad do you have to be tomess that up? Take it to a trusted independant mechanic. Look forneighbors andfriendswith great running older MB's and ask them where they get their car serviced.
