RAIN SLIPPERY

RE: RAIN SLIPPERY
What year is your car? I have a 99 C280 with traction control ESP, brake assist, the W & S 5 speed electric trans. New tires is a excellent idea, I just put on a set of Conti Contac CH95, the stock size for my ride is 205/H60/15, I went up to a 215/H60/15 and noticed immediately a big difference in handling, this is my second set of these Conti's as there traction in wet or dry is great and with a wider tire, control is much better. Also, do you have ASR or ESP, if so, turn off either via the dash button and your differntial will lock up giving power to both rear wheels, this is great in the snow. But with the ASR or ESP and traction contol you shouldn't really have any real problems unless you present tires are shot or if you drive to fast in bad conditions, after over 40 years of driving, I feel most people have accidents in bad weather because of the above two reasons, bad tires and bad driving.

Are you one of those maniacs that has to be the first one to get to each stop light? Do you endanger people's lives so you can pass a car ahead of you when there are ten cars ahead of it that you won't be able to pass? If so, get some high-performance rain tires. Or if your tires are worn past their wear indicators then get new tires.
Otherwise, ease up on the gas pedal. It works everytime. It's the cheapest and easiest solution. Also, air pressure will affect traction so check the pressure all around.
I run a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires on my car. These are strictly dry pavement summer tires. I have absolutely no trouble at all driving on rainy roads and keeping up with the traffic. I just don't drive like the roads are dry.
