Radio not playing in C 280 (93")
I have been without sound in my vehicle for the past 7 months. The radio comes on and the antenna is working fine, but I'm not getting any sound. Can anyone help me solve this problem? Yes, I tried turning it up. Nothing. I'm also getting a whining sound coming from an apparatus packed in foam on the right back end of the trunk. What is that? Does anyone know how to stop it? It only makes the sound about 5-8 times after the vehicle is started up. Well, let me know if anyone has faced these problems before.
Thanks,

You too huh?
My radio works intermittently. The volume control **** is haunted. Sometimes when I turn it clockwise the volume decreases. The reverse occurs when I turn it counter-clockwise. Several times the volume has decreased so far (whilst I'm furiously turning **** CW) that the radio remains silent for several minutes. I believe that the internal workings of the **** are dirty. I've successfully improved things once or twice by spraying tuner cleaner into the hole where the **** is. Of course you'll want to pull the **** off first. My ultimate plan is to remove the whole face plate sometime. Perhaps your volume is turned down permanently.
Your foam box in the trunk is where the vacuum pump is located. My '94 C280 was doing the same thing. I eventually traced the problem to a leaking vacuum actuator under the dashboard. Chances are you have a vacuum leak. Just wondering...does your cruise control work?

I have a 1995 C280.
I have the same problems, my radio does come on but it only comes on after driving for about 5 minutes, and when I stop fast or speed up fast. Also my vacuum pump makes an irritating sound and when I turn right I hear a whistling sound coming from what seems to be the front passenger side under the dash. Sometimes if I turn the heater on to lower than 75 then I hear a whistling sound, but it also comes and goes, sometimes changing pitches.
On top of that when I have the heater on if it is above 75 degrees Fthen the center vents blow really cold air. and my car gets to about 100 C every time I drive it, short or long distances. Any help?
