Purge Valve not making any sound

Purge Valve not making any sound
I got a "P0441 Evap Emission Control System Flow Fault" from my check engine light. I am trying to determine if it is the gas cap or the purge valve.
1996 220C is my car.
With the engine running, I cannot hear the clicking sound, even using a long screw driver on the top of the valve as a stethoscope. I have taken it off and sprayed both carb cleaner followed by WD40 into both sides of the valve and also on the bottom of the valve. That seemed to be stuck before I pressed on it with a screw driver. Now when I shake it, it rattles from the bottom I can also hear/feel something moving on the inside. Still it doesn't click when the engine is running. Does that mean it is dead? I have checked and it is getting current but on a side note, could someone tell me which post on the valve gets the hot lead, or does it matter? The wiring fits both ways and I am having doubts if I put it on correctly or not.
Anyway, finally, if I need a new purge valve, can anyone tell me where, besides a Mercedes dealer I can buy one new?
Thanks

Well, it's been several hundred miles and the check engine light is still off so I guess I fixed the purge valve.
Lesson learned: Cleaning and lubing the purge valve works but, in addition to spraying inside the valve (I used carb cleaner followed by WD 40) the key was the part of the valve that is found at the bottom. There is a small round metal part protected by plastic in the center. I pushed on it with a thin screwdriver and it broke free (It was frozen). I then sprayed it with WD 40 and shook it to assure it was free and lubricated. It makes a clicking sound when you shake it if it is working properly). That was the problem with my valve.

Good luck to all.
