Mosselman turbo 190e Aussie pimp-out
Some of you may remember some time ago Crysak advertised a unused Mosselman Turbo kit for sale. As it goes, I ended up purchasing the turbo kit and importing it (or exporting it depending upon your perspective) to Australia. The turbo has now been installed, and the car is having it's exhaust fitted as I write. Finger's crossed, it'll all work. I've heard the turbine spin-up... but not under load yet...
I'm doing a lot of work to the car - engine, suspension, interior and paint. I'm spending some serious bucks. If you guys are interested I'll post some pics, tips, facts (well, you be the judge of their factuality!), lessons-learned along the way and show you the progress as I inch closer to getting the beastie on the road.
I'm a very pedantic/critical person when it comes to cars, so there's plenty of attention to detail. I have lots of experience in engineering, design and materials (plastic, etc). I've also had help from some very clever and knowledgeable people.
For example, I've changed the colour of the dashboard, lowered it (well, a wee bit for reasons that will become apparent), fitted Koni's, fixed the door trims, changed the headlights and lot's of other little things. Parts have been purchased from all over the world. The car should be quite be quite clean, cool and quick when completed. I may have some questions to ask of fellow members too as I arrive at certain "stop points" in the process.
The design/concept brief is;
- improve performance, handling and braking to make the car a sporty, yet user-friendly, drive... a competent luxury european sports saloon.
- retain the car's inherent Merc "classy" factor - loud exhausts, outrageous bodykits and a never-ending search for more horsepower do not really factor.
- increase it's visual impact to a point where passers-by stop and go "wow, beautiful car".
- modernise the interior to remove the dated 1980's feel, also with a view to retaining/enhancing the MB design style.
So if you're interested in following the tale, show some interest and I'll start posting pics and going through the whole project bit by bit...
over to you guys/gals...

Recoloured dash
When I first purchased the car the dashboard was cracked through the vinyl and foam as a result of the effects of the harsh Australian sun and heat. I sent the dash to Queensland to Dashboard Restorations who rebuilt the foam and re-skinned the vinyl using a vacuum forming process. In a fit of madness (at the last moment) I decided to recolour the whole thing (including the centre console) to match the #115 palomino interior colour instead of the bog-standard gorilla-skin black. This has now lead me down the path of an entire interior redesign...
I've looked around, but not seen a w201 with a recoloured dash... maybe a first?

Recoloured dash
ooopps... I should add this pic was taken just after the dash was refitted, so it's not the finished product. Also note the white clock faces which are engraved and came from H&P Tachodesign in Germany. Clock faces have chrome rings and the clocks have been serviced, calibrated and the needles repainted by a local guy who only charged me AUD$85 and returned the clocks completed in two days! Great value.
