Default Installation of European Radio in C230K

I have a 2003 C230K Coupe that I bought used. It has the standard AM/FM/Cassette with the fiber optic CD Changer in the glove box. It did not come with the radio security code and I understand the code is an algorithm of the radio’s serial number and I can get it from a dealer or from several web sites. However, I recently bought a European Audio-10 radio with the single CD and longwave and shortwave bands. I’m planning to install this in place of my original radio and connect it to the changer. However, this also did not come with the radio security code. The seller (in Germany) said the code was determined by the vehicle’s electrical system – I believe this is basically crapola. So, I have two questions – 1. Is the European Audio-10’s code determined the same way as the original AM/FM/Cassette unit’s code? 2. Since this is a European radio, the spacing for the AM band channels is different than we use here in the US. I understand that there is a sequence of keys that have to be pressed in order to re-set the channel spacing. (At least that is the case with the earlier DIN-mount Audio-10.) Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks a lot.
